Eyelid procedures

Common eyelid conditions
Eye lid cysts like meibomian cyst (chalazion), benign lumps, malposition of the lower eyelid like ectropion (out-turning of lower lid), entropion (in-turning of lower lid), droopy eyelid (ptosis) are commonly encountered eyelid conditions. The majority of the lid cysts and lumps are benign (non-cancerous) and can be sorted by a minor procedure as day case surgery.

Eyelid surgery
Mr Bhatta offers minor eyelid surgery for lid lumps and lid cysts under local anaesthesia. The procedure is commonly carried out on a separate date from that of the consultation but may be accommodated on the same day if there are availability of slots. Occasionally an eye patch is required and almost always eye ointment is applied to the eye following the procedure. It is strongly advised to avoid driving home on the day. Once the local anaesthetic wears off the eye might feel sore for which simple paracetamol tablets for a day or two can be safely taken at home. A review consultation is arranged after a few weeks.

Mr Bhatta offers entropion and ectropion correction surgery which needs to be booked in advance during the initial consultation. These operations are done under local anaesthesia as a day case.

Mr Bhatta also offers blepharoplasty surgery for correction of dermatochalasis (excess skin of the upper eyelids) which may occasionally cause ‘hooding or obscuration of the upper field of vision’. Many insurers classify this as a cosmetic procedure and may not cover the costs in which case the patient needs to self-pay. It is strongly advisable to clear this with your insurer beforehand.
